ACIM Lesson 23: My Daily Reflection (location matters)

Day 23: Location. Holy Spirit spoke to me as I got out of bed this morning. It was later than I usually get up. But I needed the rest. He said, “Gwyneth, are you in the Unified Zone?”

Uh, no! I just woke up. Instead of answering, I rolled my eyes, then instantly repented. “Oops! Sorry. Connecting to River of Grace as we speak.”

It’s always a choice. Typically, being in the River of Shame is the default position.

His question called me to practice shifting from river to river all day. And, of course, that means every day from now on. Because I let myself drift back to the more familiar (and comfortably uncomfortable) split-mind-space in the River of Shame.

The question also reminded me that he and I can’t get things done in split-mind, which explains why the demons want to keep us there. Which is, genius, on their part.

Word to the wise: Underestimate the power of your opponent at your peril.

Since we spend so much time in split-mind, it’s necessary to respect the power of your opponents.

That means handle your business promptly, then connect with Team Trinity (Jesus, Holy Spirit and Heavenly Father) for guidance on what went well, what didn’t and how to proceed the next time this situation arises.

It’s New Age [busy, split-mind-thinking] to think you can float on over-sized pillows talking to goddesses, animals and plants, and never need to use The Kingdom of Heaven’s weapons of warfare to manage your connection to Unified Space.

They captured your mind with fluffy pillows! Waving sage over you and doing breath work. AAaaargh!

That’s how they use their power GENTLY to deceive you.

Whatever weapons the Kingdom of Heaven employs in your favor, are copied — with dark intentions, to fool you, to capture you, to trap you. Sweetness can be evil depending on where you are located, River of Shame or River of Grace.

Like for instance, jelly donuts are neutral, until you decide they are the enemy to your weight loss plan. For me, eating one jelly donut doesn’t satisfy my hunger. It just makes room for another jelly donut.

You say you’re a lover, not a fighter?

Then that explains why jelly donuts always win in your split-mind dieting efforts.

Location: As a consequence, when you fight from the River of Shame, the donut makes you look silly. “She is trying so hard to resist me (giggle, giggle). It won’t work. She should know by now. I always win.”

If you’re a big fan of combat sports like I am, then you’ve probably seen over-confident fighters underestimate their opponents. They only realize their mistake in the moment of being knocked-out or choked out. Waking up, they sometimes say, “What happened?”

Yes, fighters (and all the rest of us) fall into THE SAME TRAP. We saw it happen to them! But our arrogance (ego) tells us that we are smarter, more sophisticated, tougher, etc. than that poor unfortunate, over-confident fighter. Then we smile smugly and tell people, “I’m blessed. God doesn’t let stuff like that happen to me.”

Clue Phone: When it looks like demons let you win, it means they’re dragging you into deep water. Location matters.

The best Jiu-jitsu fighters are patient. They let you exhaust yourself. They use feints, leaving openings they know you’ll see as opportunity. Unfortunately for you, the open (door) is designed to lure you into a trap.

In this case, the more confident you are that your attacks are working, the more likely you are to make a mistake. Because your experienced opponent, trained (practiced) the same moves you did. He (or she) knows exactly where you’re going (location).

If you disrespect your opponent by counting him out before you finish him, you will be the one waking up on the mat.

Years ago, when I first did the Course, this statement made no sense to me, “Give up attack thoughts.”

Did that mean that I’m supposed to go through life pretending that people aren’t bothering me or messing with me? Hmmmph! That ain’t happening! I’m not letting my guard down for a minute.

But now, with the Gap tool that Nouk Sanchez and Coreen Walson first introduced in the ACIM Lesson 3 video, with a shift in my point of view, I see that they mean, if I give up my position, splashing about in the River of Shame (the busy, split-mind-zone), THEN (and only then) can I "escape the world I see by giving up attack thoughts."
That's deep.
And so is the River of Shame.

My immediate question to Holy Spirit was, “Hang on, before we go any further. Our Guardian Angels protect us when we’re in split-mind, right?”

His answer made sense and sharpened my focus. “Only if you ask.”

Well, maybe that explains why people say, “Jesus Christ!” in an exclamatory fashion, whenever something unexpectedly goes wrong. That’s a good reflex.

And even more profound, it sounds like a good answer to the question that we all ask when we’re disappointed, “Where were you, God? Why didn’t you help me?”

The answer is that he is in a different location from you. When you’re not in the River of Grace, your frequency is blocked. Help from the Kingdom of Heaven isn’t able to get through. There’s interference, just like in the Book of Daniel when his Angel was delayed by the demon Prince of Persia.

So, for me, that really ramps up the level of importance for knowing where I am at all times. You’re either in one place or the other. Best option? River of Grace, of course.

And what every fighter hears before the fight starts, “protect yourself at all times” is another good reason for Holy Spirit admonishing me when I woke up this morning. “Where you at, Gwyneth?”

And my answer is, “Wherever you are, dear Holy Spirit, that’s where I want to be.”

Location: Daniel's Angel is updating him on where he's been and why he was delayed in coming to help him:

“‘Relax, Daniel,’ he continued, ‘don’t be afraid. From the moment you decided to humble yourself to receive understanding, your prayer was heard. And I set out to come to you.

But I was waylaid by the [demon] angel-prince of the kingdom of Persia and was delayed for a good three weeks.

But then Michael, one of the chief angel-princes, intervened to help me. I left him there with the prince of the kingdom of Persia.

And now I’m here to help you understand what will eventually happen to your people.
The vision has to do with what’s ahead.’

While he was saying all this, I [Daniel] looked at the ground and said nothing.

Then I was surprised by something like a human hand that touched my lips.

I opened my mouth and started talking to the messenger, ‘When I saw you, master, I was terror-stricken. My knees turned to water. I couldn’t move. How can I, a lowly servant, speak to you, my master? I’m paralyzed. I can hardly breathe!’

Then this human-like figure touched me again and gave me strength.

He said, ‘Don’t be afraid, friend. Peace. Everything is going to be all right. Take courage. Be strong.’

Even as he spoke, courage surged up within me. I said, ‘Go ahead, let my master speak. You’ve given me courage.’

He said, ‘Do you know why I’ve come here to you? I now have to go back to fight against the angel-prince of Persia, and when I get him out of the way, the angel-prince of Greece will arrive.

But first let me tell you what’s written in The True Book. No one helps me in my fight against these beings except Michael, your angel-prince.’”
Daniel 10:12-21 MSG (The Message)

ACIM Lesson 23, Paragraph 4:You see the [split-mind] world which you have made, but you do not see yourself as the image-maker. You cannot be saved from the world, but you can escape from its cause. This is what salvation means, for where is the world you see when its cause is gone?

Vision [Unified Mind] already holds a replacement for everything you think you see now. Loveliness can light your images, and so transform them that you will love them, even though they were made of hate. For you will not be making them alone.” A Course In Miracles (ACIM): Workbook Lesson 23 (full text – free to read)

LOCATION MATTERS: GARDEN OF EDEN

GOD called to the Man, “Where are you?”

He [Adam] said, “I heard you in the garden. And I was afraid because I was naked. And I hid.”

GOD said, “Who told you that you were naked? Did you eat from that tree I told you not to eat from?”

The Man said, “The Woman you gave me as a companion, she gave me fruit from the tree. And, yes, I ate it.”

GOD said to the Woman, “What is this that you have done?”
