Jealousy ruining your mood? Location: River of Shame
Day 33: So, how do you escape jealousy in the world you see? What has to happen for your mind to clear enough that you can hear the voice of Jesus and the Holy Spirit? And how do you cross the gap between the River of Shame (jealousy) to the River of Grace (peace).
So far, the ACIM lessons teach us to change our point of view, from ego (jealousy) to Grace (divine favor). ACIM prepares you to make the leap, using the following truths:
- Lesson 28: Above all else I want to see [jealousy] things differently.
- Lesson 30: God [Jesus] is in everything I see because God [Jesus] is in my mind.
- Lesson 31: I am not the victim of [jealousy] the world I see.
- Lesson 32: I have invented [jealousy] the world I see.
- Lesson 33: There is another way of looking at [jealousy] the world, or looking at this situation.
Jealousy! Green with envy means you are sick.
"A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones."
Proverbs 14:30 (NIV)
Everyone experiences life thorough the lens of the ego. Anytime someone gets something we want, and we don’t get it too, jealousy pops. When you’re green with envy, blood pressure goes up, and you toss and turn during sleepless nights. Operating in distress mode sickens you. As a result, your position in the River of Shame is maintained.
Jealousy is a common emotion that causes upset. Once felt, collecting evidence thickens the ego barrier in your mind.
Demons use witchcraft to distort your thinking. This serves to further separate you from the help available to you in the River of Grace.
Jealousy distracts you from hearing the voice of God (Team Trinity).
Taylor Welch, on a recent episode of his Deep End podcast, quoted Fulton Sheen, saying, “Jealousy is the tribute mediocrity pays to genius.”
As it turns out, jealousy translates to a back-handed compliment. People criticize, feel resentful, and undermine the talented person, but their jealousy reveals that they actually recognize their talent. Playing this game keeps you stuck in the River of Shame. With a little whisper in your ear, saying, “They don’t deserve that, you do!”, demons make keeping you stuck look easy.
It’s time. Step through the Gap!
Your choice. Go ahead, appease your ego. Remain jealous. Or stand with Jesus, and practice being peaceful in the face of any attack from the ego.

So what if, you actually pushed through the fear of breaking your reliance on the ego — meaning how things look to you now — to see what the world might look like with Jesus and Holy Spirit guiding and protecting you from the River of Grace?
Courage is required to step through the barrier and clear out the emotional clutter in your mind. The chaos in your mind strengthens the barrier to hearing directly from Jesus and Holy Spirit.
You might be wondering why you need their help? Because you have an assignment, given to you before you were born, that you are ignoring. Your job is to support more people moving from the River of Shame to the River of Grace.
You can try to cross the Gap without Jesus, but I don’t like your chances.

Thinking you can muscle your way through the ego barrier — without Jesus — probably won’t work because we’re not equipped to take on spiritual warfare without help from Team Trinity: Jesus and Holy Spirit.
As a helpful reminder, remember the message presented in ACIM Lesson 24, “I do not perceive my own best interests in this situation... [And] You also recognize that many of your goals are contradictory, that you have no unified outcome in mind, and that you must experience disappointment in connection with some of your goals, however the situation turns out.”
Chaos. The Gap is a trap.
Because you are already trapped, you need help to escape the jealousy trap. So, instead of struggling, rest. Breathe and wait.
For a moment of clarity to happen, pause. Go to neutral. Watch and see what happens when you stop talking, moving, fixing, solving, crying, complaining, etc. You’ll soon see your own emotional chaos, and your clumsy attempts to control events.
Another way of saying that is, if you could just trust Jesus enough to walk with him through your ego’s thought system, you meet with him and the Holy Spirit on the other side of the barrier.
That’s how you move from the River of Shame to the River of Grace.
As Nouk Sanchez says in today’s video lesson (below): “There is a moment when we feel like we’re in alignment with God’s will… If we can just join with that desire in our heart.”
