Intimacy with Jesus? Is that allowed?

Question: “Intimacy? Don’t I have to clean myself up first before I even think of having an intimate conversation with Jesus or the Holy Spirit?”

Answer: Just start talking, like right now. You don’t have to earn your way in.

Start with a thank you. Gratitude is a great way to start a conversation. Especially if you can’t think of what to say. Eventually, you will hear an answer. The answer will surprise you. If it sounds like something you would tell yourself, it’s not them. That’s still you, talking to yourself.

When Jesus speaks to me, I often feel vulnerable because his answers require me to lean on him for guidance and support. My worldly self prefers to figure things out on my own. But that’s my pride and arrogance creating a heavy burden.

Intimacy has two meanings. This conversation is focused on the first definition, sharing intimate space where you can rest, with your guard down.

You can, however, have a private conversation with Jesus about anything, including the second definition.

  1. close familiarity or friendship; closeness. A private, cozy atmosphere. A place where you can let your guard down.
  2. an intimate act, especially sexual intercourse.

One thing I’ve noticed about conversing with Jesus and the Holy Spirit is that they are two different people. When the Holy Spirit talks to me, he’s giving me instruction, offering guidance or telling me exactly what to do.

Offering guidance can help me understand an assignment. Or it sounds like patient, but firm reminders that I don’t have to always have all the details.

His patience is required when I think I know what to do BETTER (lol!) or if I don’t want to honor his request at all.

Of course, I can say “No, I don’t want to do that.” But eventually, I have to comply because who doesn’t want to go on an adventure with the Holy Spirit?

Yes, it’s true. Demons have legal rights to mess with you. Yikes!

The Demon Spotting code words are designed to help you break through their deceit.

Demons have lots of experience playing their deceiving game. They’ve been practicing for a long time. They’re well-trained and very successful with what they do.

In fact, I believe that most of us share intimacy with demons — by listening closely to them and being influenced to do damaging things — on a daily basis. Even after we say the Salvation Prayer.

But Jesus gave us authority over demons.

Of course, it only works when you actually exercise your authority in the name of Jesus.

Don’t try to duel with a demon without Jesus by your side.

Jesus is there when the issue is emotional or if you’ve fallen into a trap.

Jesus died for our sins (agreements). His resurrection made the agreements null and void.

However, patterns of behavior from past generations (curses) persist because demons know how to ping us in a direction that leads to anxiety, worry, stress.

They also distract us with our favorite pleasures. By now, we’re so used to it, they don’t even have to make much of an effort.

It isn’t hard to hear the voice of God. It’s difficult to shut down the noise of the world.

We need moments of peace to hear the whispers or to see the signs. Like when you’re washing dishes, or on a long drive, for instance.

Intimacy between two eggs with one egg laughing behind them.

Relationships are often challenging.

Feeling trapped is so frustrating.

Male Egg Face (image above): “Good grief! I can’t do anything right in her eyes. And, why is this jerk egghead behind me laughing? Disrespectful! So humiliating.” (heavy sigh)

I developed code words to apply to the patterns of conversation I hear in my head from family, friends, bosses, etc.

When people sting me with their words or actions, their voices replay in my head.

To make the noise in my head stop, I gamify the chaos by applying different terms to a set of behaviors.

Just like a good jiu jitsu move has certain steps to move you towards escaping from or trapping your opponent, I have a set of terms to apply to conversational moves.

My analysis shows me the way out. My goal is to interrupt the negative stream of words. STOP!

Once I reach that silent, neutral space, I can hear what Team Trinity (Heavenly Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit) have to say to me. I can let my guard down, briefly, whilst I have an intimate conversation with them.

I LOVE talking to Jesus and the Holy Spirit. They are my ride-or-die companions. They are both extremely loyal and dedicated to me, even when I waiver in my faith or get things wrong.

I know he wants to talk to me (and to you) because he came to Earth as the Messiah to help us escape from this fallen world that is legally ruled by Satan.

Before Jesus died on the cross to atone for our sins, only the High Priest, a Jewish person, was allowed to access the Holy of Holies (a sacred place) to speak to God directly.

After Jesus was resurrected, the veil that separated the sacred space from the people was torn. This allowed us to have access to God without danger of being overcome by his glory. No more rope or bells tied to the ankle of the High Priest so that he could be pulled out if he died on the spot.

This week’s Lakewood Bible Study led by Pastor Phil Munsey explains how to gain entrance to the Holy of Holies.

Everyone needs a quiet space — a neutral space — to express gratitude, to worship and praise and to have a conversation with their Heavenly Father.

I made three short clips from the full 35 minute video. First, Pastor Phil describes what intimacy sounds like when speaking with The Holy Spirit.

Pastor Phil Munsey: “…It was like the Holy Spirit imagination had me reach out to the alter and touch the alter.

And when I touched it, I could feel a body on the alter.

And I could feel the Holy Spirit saying, ‘That’s my son. That’s Jesus Christ. He is already the sacrifice.

There’s nothing you can do to earn your way into the Holies of Holies.

You don’t earn your way into the Holies of Holies. You don’t cut yourself. You don’t beat yourself. You don’t say, ‘God! How can I sacrifice enough to get into your Holies of Holies?”

The sacrifice has already been made. Next, Pastor Munsey, from Lakewood Church in Houston, explains how to enter the Holy of Holies by following the pattern established in the old testament.

Intimacy in your conversation with Jesus starts with gratitude.

Pastor Phil Munsey: “When you step into the presence of God, you may be in a crowd of 16,000 people at Lakewood [Church], but if you follow the pattern, you’re going to get into the Holies of Holies.

And it’s like everything around you disappears. And whether it’s for 5 seconds, 15 seconds, one minute, two minutes, three minutes, when you enter in the Holies of Holies, you are completely under the presence of God.

You have dropped off any of the flesh’s instincts to distract you, to pull from you, to compete with your spirit. You have set them at peace. They are still now.”

The quiet place that Pastor Phil is talking about is what I call “neutral space”.

Before I watched this bible study lesson, I didn’t know what to call it. Now I know that neutral space happens in the Holy of Holies.

Pastor Phil seeks intimacy with Jesus every day by making time for the experience to happen.

Pastor Phil Munsey: “Sometimes in life, when I’m facing crises or if I’m seeking after God’s will, I will go through this pattern frequently, in one day.

In order to be in that moment where I can be vulnerable, where I can, as it were, take off the veil of my flesh, take off the veil of my intellect, take off the veil of my limited understanding. And step into that eternity where God shows me the Seven Wonders of Worship. Where God shows me things the way they really are.

And it’s in that moment of sweet exchange, that God imparts into my life. That’s where the healing comes.”

The full 35 minute version of this video is at the bottom of this post.

Note: Is it Holy of Holies or Holies of Holies? Pastor Munsey says, “Holies of Holies”. Is that a Texas thing or does everyone say it like that? I don’t know. I’m learning as I write this.

AI Definition: The Holy of Holies, the innermost sanctuary of the Jewish Tabernacle and later the Temple, served as God’s dwelling place among his people and the most sacred space for religious worship. The purpose of this sacred space was to manifest God’s presence and to provide a space for the High Priest to perform atonement rituals, particularly on Yom Kippur.

Dwelling Place of God: The Holy of Holies housed the Ark of the Covenant, which contained the Ten Commandments, and was considered the place where God’s presence resided among his people.

Meeting Place: It was the designated location for God to meet with his people through the Jewish High Priest.

Sacred Sanctuary: Access to the Holy of Holies was restricted to the High Priest only, and only once a year, on the Day of Atonement, to perform the atonement rituals.

Atonement Rituals: These rituals involved offering sacrifices and seeking forgiveness for the sins of the people.

Symbol of God’s Holiness: The veil that separated the Holy of Holies from the Holy Place symbolized the separation between a holy God and sinful humanity.

Representation of Heaven: The Holy of Holies was seen as a representation of heaven itself, where God dwelt in glory.

Direct Access to God: The tearing of the veil at the death of Jesus on the cross is interpreted in some Christian circles [Why not all?] as a symbolic opening of direct access to God through Christ.

Accessing the Holies of Holies: The Pattern of Worship Explained | Phil Muncy Bible Study (Part 2)

In Part 2 of “What Does Worship Mean?”, Pastor Phil Muncy takes you deeper into the divine pattern of worship as revealed in the Old Testament tabernacle and fulfilled in the New Covenant through Christ. Learn how to follow a three-part pattern—thanksgiving, praise, and worship—to enter the Holies of Holies, where heaven and earth meet.

Note: I see some spelling issues with the Pastor’s name in the video description and title.
